Everyday Mandu Cookbook

.

'For Koreans, mandu is a warm and comforting food. During the cold winter months, when kimchi is at its peak, families often gather around to make mandu together. It's a traditional festive food, and on Lunar New Year's Day, families make mandu with care to prepare manduguk (dumpling soup) and wish for peace and comfort-annyeoung. Today, you can also find pre-made frozen mandu in almost every store in Korea, and it's becoming more available abroad as well.

Mandu holds a special place in my heart. The steamed mandu I shared with my family at a famous kalguksu shop in Myeongdong, the fried mandu that came with jjajangmyeon, and the mandu I shared with my sister while enjoying tteokbokki are all tied to precious memories. Mandu can absolutely shine as the main dish, too-in mandu soup or mandu stew, especially when made from scratch at home, they truly become the stars.' — Layuhl Jang
