Coffee Pen opened in 2016 with a humble plan to offer 100% specialty coffee paired with homely food. Beyond the home-style fare was their desire to offer a kind of hub – to be a part of local people's lives and ultimately to do something to contribute to community needs and projects through the business.

'We love being part of the furniture of life for people in the city – a third place, outside of the house or the workplace, where people can gather, laugh, plan, talk or think. It is a leveler: the mood is playful and the conversation flows thanks to beautiful coffee, hearty food and people with heart – our customers!

We don't claim to be the most important place in the world but, in our own way, we aim to be essential. Like speakers need an amplifier, a door needs a knob, or paper needs a pen, Pen is there to meet locals' need for a space and for sustenance. The cafe began as nothing more than a dream penned on paper. Pen by name and Pen by nature, Coffee Pen likes to be a place where big and little dreams and contributions can grow.'
